Snakes and ladders

Have you had moments in you your life where you had everything figured out?
When it felt like the eagle had finally landed,
only to have the rug pulled from underneath your feet?
Like a games of snakes and ladders?
From rose tinted spectacles to head face down in the mud,
brought back down to earth with a thud?
The life energy that was flowing through you like a stream of consciousness,
is at once both drying up and overflowing,
and it has left you dazed and confused,
both gasping for air, and caught in an electric storm?
Angry at the world, and helpless to save it?
Knowledge is power, and it can also be a heavy burden to carry.
The brighter your light, the darker the shadow it attracts.
This delicate balance of life.
Why should we dim our light? Or harden our hearts?
Is this story familiar?
It can serve as a timely reminder, that we all have limits.
Even the wounded healers amongst us.
And so the cycle continues, as in nature
Having sailed too close to the sun,
we find our way back down to earth.
And as the days begin to get shorter,
we again learn to embrace the longer nights,
and adjust to a different pace.
